Watching the Jays Hit One Out of the Park

Yesterday the Toronto Blue Jays scored twelve runs in their game against the Texas Rangers and designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion had six RBIs, a home run and two doubles. Encarnacion has been struggling at the plate. What made the difference last night? Could it have been the Driedger contingent in the crowd cheering on the Jays?dave and samWe watched the game with our nephew Sam, our niece Grace, and Grace’s boyfriend Steve. The Jays gave us lots to cheer about especially in their two big innings when they scored 11 of their 12 runs.

grace steve and marylouIn all honesty after the game I had to look up a few facts up about last night’s action at the Rogers Centre because I was so busy visiting with my niece Grace and catching up on what is going in her life that my eyes and mind weren’t always on the game.

rogers centreThere was a good feeling in the building as the crowd cheered their home team on to victory and a good feeling in our section of the stands as we got to spend time with a niece and nephew we don’t get to see very often.

Watching the Blue Jays Win in Quebec City

landing-in-quebec-cityAs soon as our plane had landed in Quebec City yesterday afternoon

house-in-quebec-cityAnd we had checked into the beautiful brick house we had rented for the week

street in quebec cityDave had us out the door and on a mission. It was already 3:30 and by 4 p.m. he wanted to be in a pub or sports bar with a television so we could watch the fifth and final baseball game in the Toronto Blue Jays play off series against the Texas Rangers.

We walked up and down street after street looking for a place to watch the game but many were still not open for the evening or they didn’t have a television. dave talks to man on the quebec city streetDave stopped to ask this gentleman if he knew of a pub with a television, but the elderly man was only interested in sharing his religious beliefs with Dave.

ninkasi pub quebec cityFinally just minutes before the game started we found La Ninkasi du Faubourg. Named after the Sumerian goddess of beer the establishment had many different rooms all with televisions broadcasting the crucial ball game in French. . watching the jays quebec cityWhen the game started the place was fairly empty but it filled up quickly with baseball fans who cheered along with us as the Jays came from behind first to tie the game and then to pull into a 3 run lead. buffet pub quebec cityWe had planned to go out for dinner after the game but lo and behold at 5 pm. out came this loaded buffet which pub patrons could visit for just a twoonie. Lucky for us since the Jays game was very looooooooong and we would have been pretty hungry by the time it was over.umpire blue jays texas gameI felt a little sorry for the umpires who had to deal with some unusual situations during the game. dave and marylou quebec cityWhen the final pitch was thrown and the Jays had won the game the French Canadian fans who had been watching with us shook our hands, gave us high fives and cheered along with us.  It was kind of neat to be celebrating a great Canadian sports moment in a different part of Canada.
