Precious Lord

This will be the last in a series of posts I’ve been writing about the music at my Mom’s funeral. The service ended with my son and his wife singing Precious Lord Take My Hand.

When my son was sixteen he sang the hymn in church one Sunday morning as a solo and Mom accompanied him on the piano.  The next day when Mom and I were on a walk together she told me that someday she’d like her grandson to sing Precious Lord at her funeral.  He did, and his wife accompanied him providing the musical and emotional support he needed as he paid a final tribute to his grandmother. I know it would have made her very happy.

Precious Lord take my hand

Lead me on let me stand

I am tired, I am weak, I am worn

Through the storm, through the night

Lead me on to the light

Take my hand, precious Lord

Lead me home.
